Brush Cutting — Case Study
A Spotsylvania County landowner had 8 acres of overgrown field and fence lines that hadn't been maintained in several years. Briars, saplings, and thick brush had taken over the pasture and were pushing into the fence line. We cut the entire field and all fence lines in two days using the skid steer with a brush cutter attachment.
The field had gone from maintained pasture to dense brush in about 4 years. Briars and multiflora rose had taken over the fence lines, making them nearly impossible to inspect or repair. Several sections of fence were buried in vegetation. The owner wanted the field open for hay production and the fence lines clear for livestock.
We used the Case TV450B with a brush cutter attachment to work through the field in overlapping passes, cutting all vegetation to ground level. For the fence lines, we worked carefully along both sides of the fence, cutting back to 6 feet on each side to give the owner clear access for inspection and repair. We left the cut material in place to decompose — no hauling needed for this type of work.
All 8 acres cut in two days. The fence lines are clear and the owner was able to walk and inspect the full perimeter within a week. The field was ready for a lime and fertilizer application and the owner had it in hay production by the following spring.
